    These coins were on the bottom of the English Channel for almost 200 years. They were part of the cargo of the Admiral Gardner, an East India Company ship that was bound for Madras that sunk during a storm in 1809. These coins were found preserved in wooden crates in the remains of the ship. The Admiral Gardner was launched in 1797 as an East Indiaman for the British East India Company. Obverse: East India Company Coat of Arms. Reverse: Mughal Inscription & Denomination.
